U16-20 National Select Teams

National Selects teams is a program for U16-20 athletes looking to learn, train, and compete in a high performance environment.This program is NOT for just anyone and the selection process is extensive to ensure that we put together the strongest team to represents our flag during international competition.

The program is open for any and all Canadian youth athletes to apply. We also identify athletes at the Spike Touch Showcase Events the summer prior. The program consists of 1 week of high performance training on a university campus, then the teams fly out to the location of the US Volleyball All-Star tournament.  The US Volleyball All-Star Tournament brings in the best athletes that USA has to offer. Due to the caliber of play, this tournament brings out a large quantity of US coaches/ team recruiters from some of the biggest post secondary institutions in the USA.

Important Information for U16-U17

QUICK FACTS

- We will select two teams of 12 athletes and alternates at the U16-U17 age. Athletes must be born on or after January 1st, 2008. 

- The selected athletes will meet in Langley, BC to train for a week in July at Trinity Western University, then travel to the US to Madison, Wisconsin to compete in the USA Volleyball All-Star Championship from July 23-27th, 2025. 

- As this is an international tournament, USA Volleyball will be using years of birth as the age groups, without any extended ages for late birthdays. Our teams will compete in the International division at the Under 17.

- Coaches will be selected from applications from club and post-secondary coaches across the country. 

- During training period in Langley, teams will train together, either by position or as a full group, with an individual team component session training added in. 

-       We will focus on skill development, game management, match preparation and high level, multi-skill game play drills while still ensuring we develop athlete fundamentals.

-  Athletes will stay and eat together on the TWU campus with multiple training sessions each day, and food is included with the accommodations in Langley. 

- There will also be team building activities, training with guest high-performance coaches, and information sessions on post-secondary volleyball, game planning, mental preparation, and physical training and international volleyball. 

-  Players will be provided with a branded clothing package including jerseys.

-  Cost for the program will be in the $4000- $5000 range for rostered athletes ($2700 for alternates), which includes accommodations and food in Langley for 7 days, travel to Madison, WI, hotels, transportation and tournament entry fee for US All-Star Championships and team clothing package. It does not include travel to Langley for all selected athletes, travel home from Wisconsin for all selected athletes, food in Wisconsin or incidentals. 

- This program is not designed to compete with or replace your provinces Provincial Team programs. It is simply a different opportunity for more athletes to compete and train at an elite level, get exposure to different coaches, and international competition. 

2025 CANADIAN SELECTS TEAMS

Location: Langley, BC

Training: Trinity Western University

Tournament: USA Volleyball All-Star Championship

Teams: U16-U17

Cost: $4000- $5000 range for rostered athletes ($2700 for alternates)

Important Information for U18-U19

QUICK FACTS

- We will select one team of 12- 15 athletes at the U18-19 age. Athletes must be born on or after January 1st, 2006. 

- The selected athletes will travel to Havana, Cuba in February of 2025 to train and compete with elite Cuban athletes and coaches from the Havana Sport School 

- Team will be coached by Spike Touch founder Fraser Macleod, who has taken multiple teams to Cuba before, and assisted by Karina Richichi (Assistant Coach BTG National Selects Team 2023, Assistant Coach- Elite West Volleyball Club and Head Coach- Ace Volleyball Club U16 Girls High Performance team)

- During their time in Cuba, the team will train with the Cuban athletes and coaches once or twice per day, receiving instruction from both their Canadian coaching staff and the Cuban coaching (interpreter is provided!)

- Athletes will stay and eat together in an all-inclusive resort with a pool and beach access. 

-       There will also be cultural excursions to experience the Cuban culture, food, and sights. 

-       The team will be provided with an air-conditioned bus to make all travel as safe as possible and will have a Cuban guide to facilitate all aspects of our trip. 

- Players will be provided with a branded clothing package including jerseys.

- Cost for the program will be in the $3250- $4250 range for all athletes, which includes accommodations, food and transport in Cuba, ST team clothing package, flights to and from Cuba and training and competition.

- The team will compete with various Cuban players and teams’ multiple times over our stay in Havana, both Canada vs Cuba and as Canadian and Cuban athletes together. 

- This program is not designed to compete with or replace your provinces Provincial Team programs. It is simply a different opportunity for more athletes to compete and train at an elite level, get exposure to different coaches, and international competition. 

2025 U18- U19 CANADIAN SELECTS

U14 Summer Camp

The program runs over 14 days (7 At Campus, 7 At Tournament), and provides high performance training for athletes on a university campus. 

-Players stay in dorms in rooms of 2​

-Hours of court time with some of the best coaches in Canada

​-Any off court team building exercises are included in cost

-All meals are included

-Training gear is also included for athletes.
